Breech Birth After Caesarean (BBAC)

Stephanie Sinclair

You can do all the things that are within your control, and birth can still be unpredictable. That was the case for my client Krystal, who also happens to be my neighbor.

Krystal experienced some significant trauma and injuries from the birth of her first. That birth ended in an unnecessary Caesarean based solely off of the outdated "24 Hour Rule". That experience left Krystal with unresolved PTSD.

Krystal had some understandable reservations about hiring me, knowing we would see one another often in the neighborhood. However, she followed her intuition and set up a meeting to just talk about the possibility of hiring a Birth Doula. We spent a good hour meeting, with zero expectations or pressure. I felt honored that Krystal shared with me her concerns, her previous birth story, and her hopes and dreams for her next journey.

After breaking down some barriers, I was so excited when Krystal and her husband, Devin decided to work with me and How2Mom. Her pregnancy brought some challenges and she also experienced the loss of her father weeks before delivery.

After finding out her baby was breech and a failed ECV (External Cephalic Version), Krystal stayed determined to have an empowering experience and a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean). She weighed out her options and decided to switch providers to one who supported Breech Vaginal Birth. That journey in itself is a story she shares in this episode. This is just the beginning of her story.

I've attended a lot of births, and there have only been a couple which have brought me to my knees. Krystal's birth was one of them. She showed so much patience, trust, courage, strength, and determination through her long unmedicated labor, a uterine rupture, and a lengthy NICU stay for her baby who wasn't breathing on her own at delivery.

While in recovery, me and the staff hugged, cried and prayed . Please take time to listen to Krystal tell her story. She is so brave to share her story so that we can all learn and normalize real birth stories.  It will bring tears but also joy hearing just how strong Krystal was, and how Alice was just as strong.
